About LRHS

LRHS has been providing a safe and compassionate shelter for lost, abused or unwanted animals since 1995. Our mission is to care for cats and dogs in need until they can be adopted, and to promote their health and welfare through community outreach and education.

Formally located at the Winners Circle Farm in Tuftonboro, NH, a facility once used to home greyhounds for racing, LRHS relocated in 2006 to an old farmhouse on Old Route 28 in Ossipee, that was transformed into the Lakes Region Humane Society you see today. In July of 2015 we celebrated our 20th Birthday as an Animal Welfare Organization!

LRHS works with the surrounding towns of Tuftonboro, Ossipee, Wolfeboro, and Effingham to take in pets who are surrendered by their owners or brought in as strays. LRHS ensures that once a pet is checked into our shelter, he/she receives quality food, shelter, grooming, enrichment, medical assistance and love while we seek out a perfect forever home for him/her. Every pet adopted out from LRHS is fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and healthy.

LRHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and receives no federal or state funding. Our organization is run strictly on funds raised by our Board of Directors. All monies raised are spent right here at our own facility, on our pets.
